Medicare Supplement

Premiums
keep going up?

Your coverage didn't change, just your premium. Medicare Supplement benefits are set by federal law. So a Medicare Plan G with your current carrier will be the same exact Plan G with another carrier.

Why the same plan costs different amounts

Medicare Supplement plans are standardized by letter. A Plan G from one carrier covers exactly what a Plan G from another carrier covers. That part isn't up to them. The premium is.

The benefits are federal Congress defines what each plan letter covers. Carriers cannot add to it or take away from it.
The price is the carrier's Each company sets its own rates and its own yearly increases. Two neighbors with identical coverage can pay very different amounts.
Your doctors don't change No Supplement uses a network. Any doctor or hospital that accepts Medicare still accepts it, with no referrals.
G

Plan G - the most complete plan sold today

After the Part B deductible, it covers what Original Medicare leaves behind, including Part B excess charges. No copays for office or emergency visits, and very little out of pocket when you need care.

N

Plan N - a lower premium, with small copays

Covers nearly the same ground as Plan G for less each month. The tradeoff: a copay of up to $20 at the doctor and up to $50 at the emergency room, and it doesn't cover Part B excess charges.

Already have Plan F?

You can keep it. Plan F closed to anyone who became eligible for Medicare on or after January 1, 2020, but if you already hold one, it stays yours, and it can still be reviewed for price. Plans A, K, L and high-deductible G exist too; an agent can walk through those with you.

One thing a Supplement never includes

Prescription drug coverage. That comes from a separate Part D plan, and it's worth reviewing at the same time.
